I know it has been said before, but it’s worth repeating, LED light bulbs are the way to go.

LED light bulbs cost you more at the checkout line but conversely save you more at the end.

It’s not just the wattage for the same amount of brightness. It saves on heat generated by incandescence bulbs. That’s extra heat that needs to be cooled by your AC in the summer.

According to the study mentioned above, by 2027, governments will save billions of dollars due to the widespread use of LED bulbs. So just replace the ordinary incandescence lights with LED bulb lights and enjoy brighter lights and less energy consumption.

Air Drying Your Dishes

This tip might be missed or overlooked by health concerns. Simply air dry your dishes in the dishwasher with the door open or a dish rack next to the sink.

The heat-dry setting of a dishwasher can be expensive. The heating element draws thousands of watts, costing you money. If you are using a dishwasher, you can turn the drying option off, and we just open the door when the cycle finishes.

Suppose you google the cost-saving benefit of adjusting your heating and cooling system thermostat. In that case, it will produce a mired of statistics on the subject. The reason it’s one of the top suggestions, is it saves you money on electric costs.

Short of replacing your old unit with a newer, higher SEER system. Raising your thermostat in the summer and lowering it in winter will yield the most cost savings to the electric bill. Try to layer clothes or use fans to stay comfortable.

Programmable or smart WIFI thermostats can help you save electricity by automatically switching the heating and cooling system according to your routine.

Unplug Devices or Find The Standby Mode

According to a USA Today article, unplugging all devices might not yield the dramatic saving as it once did. Technology has advanced in energy consumption on everything from coffee pot clocks to phone chargers.

For example, with the nightlights we put on the hallway, I always forgot to unplug in the mornings. Nowadays, lights come with sensors that will turn the unit off in the daytime and turning on at night.

I still think it makes sense and can protect the device from line surges. Maybe start with the device you just don’t use or use very little. If the device is with a charging device, Tip, store both the charger and device together in a bag or bundles with zip tie. Labeling the charger is even better.

Look For The Energy Star

This is a no-brainer, but when you need to replace older appliances. Buy the certified Energy Star appliances.
They cost a little more but save a bundle on electricity.

It’s possible to recoup your investment way before the lifetime of the appliance. I recently replaced an old electric water heater with a new Energy Star heat pump model.
